University of Calcutta, invites applications for the Ph.D. Programme in the Department of Genetics

    Eligibility : Candidate will have to appear at a written MCQ examination to be held in the Department of Genetics, the details of which are appended below. Successful candidates will be called for an interview where they are expected to discuss their research interest/area based on a Statement of Purpose (SoP) not exceeding 1000 words that is to be submitted by the candidate at the time of initial application. The final selection for joining the PhD program of this department along with the allocation of supervisor will be made on the basis of this Interview. Those candidates who have already passed UGC-CSIR (JRF) NET/SET/SLET/GATE/Teacher Fellowship or equivalent examination or passed M.Phil/M.Tech or equivalent examination need not appear for the written test. Nevertheless, they are to submit a complete application including the SoP (Guidelines for SoP may be downloaded from the Departmental website).

    How to apply
    Candidates willing to pursue research work leading subsequently to the Ph.D. (Sc.) degree in Genetics, University of Calcutta, should apply in plain paper in the format attached herewith (downloadable from University Website, admission notification) to the Head of the Department, after paying Rs. 100/- to the University Cash Counter through a challan available from the University Sales Counter at the C.U. College Street Campus/Law College Campus. A photocopy of the challan of RET examination fee deposited by the candidate must be attached to the application of the candidate for the RET.

    2. List of eligible candidates for written examination to be displayed in the Department’s Notice Board 19.08.2013
    3. Date of RET (written part) Examination (MCQ type: 50 questions: duration 12 noon-1pm) 26.08. 2013
    4. Date of declaration of results (in the Notice Board, Department of Genetics, University of Calcutta) showing the names of successful candidates in the written part of RET on 30.08.2013
    5. Date of RET interview for successful candidates in the RET (written part) and also for the candidates who have already cleared eligibility tests like NET/SET/SLET/GATE and equivalent exams or those having M. Phil. or M.Tech. 04.09.2013 (12 noon onwards)
