    The score is used for admissions to post-graduate engineering programmes (M.E., M.Tech, and direct Ph.D) in Indian higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Govt agencies

    Admission to post graduate programmes with MHRD and some other government scholarship/assistantship at engineering colleges/institutes in the country are open to those who qualify through GATE. GATE qualified candidates with Bachelor degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Pharmacy or Master degree in any branch of Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications are eligible for Master, Doctoral programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Pharmacy as well as for Doctoral programmes in relevant branches of Science. To avail the scholarship, the candidate must additionally secure admission to such a postgraduate programme, as per the prevailing procedure of the admitting institution. GATE qualification, however, is not required for candidates with Master degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Pharmacy who may be seeking scholarship/assistantship for relevant doctoral programmes.

    Eligibility:
    The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE:

    B.E./B.Tech/B.Arch: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture (4 years after 10+2 / Post B.Sc. / Post-Diploma).

    M.Sc/M.A. / MCA: Master’s degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics / Statistics/Computer applications or equivalent.

    Int M.E./M.Tech or Dual Degree (after 10+2 or Diploma): Integrated Master’s degree programs or dual degree programs in Engineering/Technology (five year programme).

    Int M.E./M.Tech (Post B.Sc): Post-B.Sc Integrated Master’s degree programs in Engineering/ Technology (four year programme).

    Professional Society Examinations (equivalent to B.E/B.Tech/B.Arch): B.E./B.Tech equivalent examinations, of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE (AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India).

    Candidates can apply online.

    GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS website) can be accessed from the website of the respective zonal GATE Offices or from the website of the organizing institute.

    For GATE 2015 payments would have to be made through online by selecting either SBI I-collect or Axis Bank I-Connect, or using any bank debit card/credit card, net banking and e-challan facilities only.

    Application Fees: The application fee is Rs. 1500/- for General/OBC male candidates Rs. 750/- for female candidates and Rs. 750/- for the SC/ST/PwD category candidates

    Paper Pattern:

    The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3-hour duration that contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks.

    The question paper will consist of both multiple choice questions (MCQ) and numerical answer type questions.

    The examination for all the papers will be carried out in an online Computer Based Test (CBT) mode where the candidates will be shown the questions in a random sequence on a computer screen.
